You saw a jacket. Now you're curious.

What exactly is a yacht charter?

Think of it like renting a holiday home — except the home sails. You hire a yacht (with or without a captain) and spend your week island-hopping, anchoring in hidden coves, swimming off the deck, and eating at harbourside restaurants.

No yacht club membership required. No sailing experience needed if you hire a skipper. Just you, your group, and the whole Mediterranean as your back garden.

Groups of 2 to 12 people. Couples, families, friend groups, and corporate retreats all welcome.

🏖️

You set the itinerary

Wake up and decide where to sail. Change your mind. Anchor wherever looks beautiful. Nobody tells you what to do.

🍽️

It's more private than any hotel

Your own deck, your own kitchen, your own swimstep. No other guests, no shared pools, no queuing for sunbeds.

💰

Often cheaper than you think

Split between 6 people, a skippered charter in Greece can cost less per person than a mid-range hotel week.

🧭

Zero experience needed

Hire a skipper and all you need to do is show up. They handle navigation, mooring, and everything nautical.

The question everyone asks first

Do I need a sailing licence?

Short answer: probably not. Here's the full picture in plain English.

Bareboat charter

You sail the boat yourself. You'll need an ICC or equivalent licence, and most charter companies require some logged sailing experience. Great for sailors.

🧑‍✈️

Skippered charter — the popular choice

A professional skipper handles all the sailing. You need zero experience. Simply enjoy the journey. This is how most first-timers charter.

👨‍👩‍👧

Crewed charter

Captain plus full crew including chef and hostess. They handle everything onboard. You're a guest. Pure luxury mode.

📋

The simple rule

If you hire a skipper, no licence is required in any destination we operate — Greece, Croatia, Italy, or any Mediterranean country.

Your worries, answered honestly

Everyone has the same questions before their first charter. Here's the truth.

🌊
Fear
"What if I get seasick?"
The Mediterranean is generally calm, especially in summer. Sailboats move gently. Most guests are surprised how comfortable it is. Anti-nausea tablets are available if needed, and catamarans are the most stable option for sensitive sailors.
💸
Fear
"I can't afford a private yacht."
Split between 6 people, a skippered charter in Greece can be less than €400 per person for the whole week. That's cheaper than many all-inclusive resorts — and infinitely more memorable.
🏠
Fear
"Isn't the boat too small to live on?"
Modern charter yachts are surprisingly spacious. A 45ft catamaran has 4 private cabins, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, and a large outdoor deck. Most guests prefer the freedom of the yacht to any hotel room they've stayed in.
🆘
Fear
"What if something goes wrong at sea?"
Skippered charters include a licensed professional responsible for safety. The yacht carries full safety equipment, flares, life jackets, and an EPIRB beacon. We maintain 24/7 support throughout your charter. You are never truly alone.
👦
Fear
"Is it safe with kids?"
Family charters are one of our specialties. Children love life on a yacht — snorkelling, swimming off the back, spotting dolphins. We'll recommend calm, sheltered routes and family-friendly anchorages suitable for little ones.
🤷
Fear
"I don't know the first thing about yachts."
You don't need to. That's what the skipper is for. Your only job is to decide which island looks most beautiful and whether you want rosé before or after your swim. Everything else is handled.

The First-Timer's Guide to Mediterranean Yacht Chartering

Everything you need before your first charter. 28 pages covering what to pack, how to plan your route, the best anchorages in Greece, Croatia, and Italy, what to eat, and how to get the most from your skipper.

-
Absolutely — and many guests prefer this. Most bareboat and skippered charters include a full galley kitchen. You can shop at local markets (part of the fun) or organise provisioning in advance. On crewed charters, a private chef prepares all meals from agreed menus. You can still customise what you eat and drink.

What's the difference between a monohull and a catamaran?

A monohull sailboat is the traditional single-hull design — responsive, sporty, great sailing experience, more affordable. A catamaran has two hulls — much more stable (far less rolling), more living space, shallower draft (reaches closer to shore), and ideal for families or guests prone to seasickness. Catamarans are typically 20–40% more expensive to charter.

Is there WiFi on the yacht?

Some newer yachts include onboard WiFi via 4G routers — we'll confirm this for any vessel we recommend. Most guests find that Mediterranean mobile coverage (Greek, Croatian, Italian SIM cards) is good enough in most anchorages. Honestly, most guests tell us they enjoyed the excuse to disconnect.

How much should we budget for extras beyond the charter price?

As a rough guide, budget 20–30% on top of the charter fee for "APA" (Advance Provisioning Allowance): fuel, marina fees, food, drinks, and skipper gratuity. On a €2,000/week charter, this might mean an extra €400–€600 for the group — split between 6 people, that's very manageable. We'll give you a specific estimate for your booking.

Can we bring a pet?

Some yachts permit pets with an additional cleaning deposit. It depends on the owner's policy. Tell us you'd like to bring your dog and we'll filter for pet-friendly vessels and confirm the relevant regulations for importing animals into your destination country.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Mediterranean summers are reliably sunny, but wind and weather are part of sailing. Your skipper will monitor forecasts daily and adjust the route accordingly — sometimes that means discovering a stunning sheltered bay you wouldn't have found otherwise. Charter contracts include provisions for force majeure situations. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance for all guests.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes — we strongly recommend it for all guests. Specifically, look for a policy that covers sailing and water sports activities. The charter company carries third-party liability insurance for the vessel, but this does not cover your personal belongings, flights, or medical costs. We can recommend specialist marine travel insurance providers.
