Skipper’s Diary Alimos: A Charter Week – Day 5

Leaving Spetses – A Morning on the Water
The fifth day of our sailing from Alimos adventure begins with the soft morning light illuminating Spetses Town. The harbor is peaceful, with fishing boats heading out to sea and café owners setting up for the day. After a fresh breakfast of Greek yogurt, honey, and fruit, we prepare the yacht for departure. Today, we have a 15-nautical-mile sail to Ermioni, a picturesque town on the eastern coast of the Peloponnese Peninsula.
The winds are moderate at 10 knots, creating ideal sailing conditions as we glide across the shimmering waters of the Argolic Gulf. Guests relax on deck, enjoying the salty breeze, while others practice their sailing techniques. The journey offers breathtaking views of Dokos Island and the rugged coastline of the Peloponnese.

Arriving in Ermioni – A Hidden Gem on the Mainland
By early afternoon, we reach Ermioni, a charming coastal town with a relaxed, authentic feel. Unlike the more tourist-heavy islands, Ermioni offers a glimpse into traditional Greek life. The town is built on a peninsula, surrounded by turquoise waters and dense pine forests, making it a unique stop on our journey.
After mooring in the small harbor, guests take a stroll along the Mandrakia promenade, where colorful fishing boats bob in the water and family-run tavernas line the waterfront. Some choose to explore the Franchthi Cave, one of the oldest inhabited sites in Europe, while others take a hike through Bisti Forest, a scenic pine-covered area with stunning coastal views.
Swimming and Snorkeling in the Crystal-Clear Waters
The nearby Kouverta Beach is the perfect spot for an afternoon swim. The crystal-clear waters and soft golden sand create an idyllic setting for relaxation. Some guests snorkel along the rocky edges, discovering small fish and hidden coves, while others enjoy paddleboarding in the calm bay. This peaceful moment highlights the true beauty of yachting in Greece—the ability to find untouched paradises away from the crowds.
A Taste of Ermioni – Authentic Greek Dining
As the sun sets, we head to Maria’s Taverna, a beloved local restaurant known for its home-cooked Greek specialties. Tonight’s menu includes slow-cooked lamb kleftiko, freshly grilled sea bass, and traditional mezze platters, all paired with a bottle of locally-produced Assyrtiko wine. The hospitality of the owners makes the experience even more memorable, as they share stories about life in Ermioni and the region’s rich history.
Back on the yacht, the gentle sounds of the sea create the perfect atmosphere for unwinding after a full day of sailing and exploration.
Looking Ahead – What’s Next on Our Sailing Journey?
Tomorrow, we set sail for Poros, returning to one of the Saronic Gulf’s most beloved islands, where we will enjoy one last taste of island life before heading back to Alimos.
Stay tuned for Day 6 as we sail back to Poros for a final island escape!
