Skipper’s Diary: A Charter Week in Lefkada – Day 1

Day 1: Welcome Aboard & Setting Sail to Meganisi (12nm)
The first day of a yacht charter is always filled with excitement, and today is no exception. Guests arrive at Lefkada Marina, eager to embark on their adventure. As the skipper, my first task is to conduct a safety briefing, ensuring everyone feels comfortable with the yacht’s layout, emergency procedures, and basic sailing etiquette. We go over the planned itinerary, discuss weather conditions, and answer any questions about life on board.
Once provisions are loaded and final checks are complete, we hoist the sails and head towards Meganisi, a small yet stunning island just 12 nautical miles southeast of Lefkada. With a steady northwesterly breeze, we enjoy an easy sail, giving guests their first taste of life on the water. Along the way, we pass Skorpios Island, once owned by the legendary Onassis family, and admire its lush greenery and secluded coves.
Highlight of the Day: Anchoring in Abelike Bay
Meganisi is known for its tranquil bays, and Abelike Bay is our chosen anchorage for the night. The waters here are calm and crystal clear, perfect for an afternoon swim. Guests take out paddleboards, while others relax on deck, sipping on a glass of local white wine. Some choose to snorkel around the rocky coastline, spotting small fish and vibrant underwater flora.
As the sun sets, we prepare a traditional Greek dinner onboard—grilled seafood, fresh Greek salad, and tzatziki, all enjoyed with a backdrop of golden hues reflecting on the water. With no city lights around, the sky transforms into a breathtaking canvas of stars, and we spend the evening sharing stories, playing soft music, and soaking in the beauty of our surroundings.
Tomorrow, we set sail towards Kastos, a charming and lesser-known island with picturesque harbors and unspoiled nature.
Stay tuned for Day 2 as we sail to the picturesque port of Kastos!
