Skipper’s Diary: A Charter Week in Lefkada – Day 4

Skipper’s Diary Lefkada, a woman on the beach in Ithaca

Day 4: Sailing to Ithaca—The Land of Odysseus (14nm)

Sailing through the Ionian on our Skipper’s Diary Lefkada has been an incredible journey so far, and today we embark on one of the most anticipated legs of our adventure—Ithaca, the legendary home of Odysseus. We depart early from Atokos, with the gentle morning breeze setting the tone for a smooth passage. The sea remains calm, making the 14-nautical-mile journey a pleasure for everyone onboard.

As we approach Vathy, the island’s charming capital, we are greeted by an idyllic bay surrounded by lush green hills. Ithaca’s timeless beauty, combined with its rich mythology, makes it a dream destination for any sailor. After securing the yacht in the marina, guests take time to explore the quaint streets, visit the Odysseus Museum, and enjoy a traditional Greek coffee in one of the waterfront cafés.

An Afternoon of Exploration

In the afternoon, we sail towards Filiatro Beach, a sheltered bay with crystal-clear waters, perfect for snorkeling and relaxing. Guests take turns on the paddleboards while others simply float in the serene Ionian waters. As the sun sets, we enjoy dinner at Taverna O Nikos, where the seafood is as legendary as the island itself. Fresh octopus, grilled prawns, and a bottle of local Robola wine make for the perfect ending to the day.

Tomorrow we set sail towards Kefalonia, one of the most diverse and breathtaking islands in the Ionian. There we will explore amazing beaches on the outer side of the island, but only if the sea allows it.

Stay tuned for Day 5 as we sail to the stunning island of Kefalonia!
