Skipper’s Diary Alimos: A Charter Week – Day 2

Skipper’s Diary Alimos: A Charter Week – Day 2
Departing Aegina – A Smooth Morning Sail
The second day of our Skipper’s Diary Alimos adventure begins with the sun rising over Aegina Town. The marina is already buzzing with activity as fishermen prepare their boats and fellow sailors plan their routes. After a light breakfast on deck—fresh pastries, Greek yogurt, and honey—we go through our morning checklist. With a steady northwesterly breeze at 12 knots, conditions are ideal for our 15-nautical-mile sail to Poros.
As we leave Aegina behind, the deep blue waters of the Saronic Gulf stretch before us. Along the way, we pass Moni Island, an uninhabited islet with lush pine trees and clear turquoise waters. Guests take the opportunity to relax on deck, soaking up the sun, while others take turns at the helm under my guidance.
For those considering a yacht charter in Greece, Poros is a fantastic stop, blending history, natural beauty, and vibrant island life.
Arriving in Poros – A Stunning Harbor Entrance
By early afternoon, we reach Poros, an island known for its charming neoclassical architecture and bustling waterfront lined with colorful fishing boats. The entrance to Poros Town Harbor is breathtaking, with a narrow channel separating it from the Peloponnese coast.
We secure a mooring near the main promenade, where tavernas and cafés line the shore. Before stepping ashore, we enjoy a refreshing swim near Love Bay, a stunning cove surrounded by pine forests. The emerald waters are calm and inviting, making it the perfect place to cool off after our morning sail.
Exploring Poros – A Walk Through History
Poros has a unique charm, offering both lively waterfront culture and peaceful natural escapes. Some guests choose to explore the Archaeological Museum of Poros, which showcases artifacts from ancient settlements in the region. Others hike up to the Poros Clock Tower, the island’s most famous landmark, where breathtaking panoramic views await.
For those eager to dive deeper into Poros’ maritime history, the Hellenic Naval Academy and historic shipyard offer fascinating insights. The island has long been a hub for Greek naval traditions, and its connection to the sea is evident in every corner of the town.
If you’re planning a visit, you can explore.
Dinner by the Sea – Greek Delicacies in Poros
As the sun sets, the island’s waterfront transforms into a lively scene of music and laughter. We choose Apagio Taverna, a beloved restaurant known for its traditional Greek seafood dishes. Our meal consists of grilled calamari, fresh fish, and a rich seafood pasta, all paired with a crisp white Assyrtiko wine.
Back on board, guests relax under a starlit sky, enjoying the gentle sway of the yacht. The warm night air carries the sounds of distant music and the occasional ripple of passing boats. It’s the perfect ending to another incredible day at sea.
